The Museum of Film.

Movies are a great piece of this states fame, Hollywood is the heart of film and a museum is a great way to appreciate the film industry. The Oscar organization is going to debut an entire museum in L.A. in about 3 1/2 years. The founders of the museum want it to be more than just a tourist attraction, they want it to teach people more about the industry and create more appreciation. The project is predicted to cost about $300 million and will be apart of the L.A.C.M.A. (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) complex. This project makes me happy, because now the film industry will have a place to store their legacies. There are many art museums around the world but hardly any film museums and I think that this will spark the interests of man who want to learn or be involved with this industry. I look forward to the opening of this museum because now as a filmmaker I have somewhere to appreciate past work done by film legends such Hitchcock and Spielberg. I still question if people will actually come to support the museum and if they will find interest in the exhibits, and admire the great works of directors in the past and the great work done in the present.

"Speed Up" The final shooting days

Our group have successfully finished shooting our first major film of the year. We shot four out of the five schooldays after school from 3:30 to 5:00. The equipment we were using gave us no problems and since we were already recording the Foley and A.D.R. during class time our shooting schedule was very smooth. We were able to capture two to three takes for every shot. We ran into some problems with our groups work effort. Two of our five members were slacking off a lot during shooting time. They were either not paying attention or not listening to the director. In all they provided very little towards the final shootings. We still managed to complete our shooting and get enough sounds and audio recorded to put together on the computer and edit it.

"Speed Up" Shooting Day 1

On Wednesday of this week we worked hard to have a successful start to the beginning of our shoot. We arrived at location at 3:30 and set up to start filming by 3:45 p.m. Our camera was running great and it gave us no trouble. The actor gave a great performance and the director was doing his job by telling him the right things to do. Our producer did a great job of keeping the slate and shot list in check. We reached our goal of shooting all the way to scene 5 and covering the necessary insert shots. Our next shoot we would want to stay on location a little longer so we can shoot our next scene smoothly. My groups participation was good but if I was rating them on a scale of 1-10 I would probably give an 8 just because of short spurts of off task moments. Other than that we got good progress out of our first day of shooting.

Production of "Speed Up" Week 1

This week we have started our first major film project of the year and so far things are moving quite smoothly. Our director/writer Gustavo provided us with a great story and we are really excited to start our first project. On Sunday we completed our first script and reviewed it on Monday. We all contributed to the corrections of the script via online Celtx. On Wednesday after school 4 out of the 5 group members got together at Amy's house to go over the shooting days. Together we got work done and made our final edits on the script. We are already set on what locations we are gonna use and everything is set to start filming next week on Tuesday.

Wan on His Way

James Wan is one of those directors that came out of nowhere but rose to the top very fast. He directed "The Conjuring", "Saw", and his "Insidious: Chapter 2" comes out tomorrow. The 36 year old Australian is also scheduled to take the reigns of the next "Fast and Furious" movie which he has already started production on. His "Insidious" film that he first released made $54 million domestically and $97 million worldwide those are some very astonishing numbers for a horror film in my opinion because not many people like horror so to raise that is pretty impressive. I really liked "Insidious" not considering the fact that i did not sleep that night but everything in that movie made a perfect horror film. Wan inspires me to keep pursuing the industry till one day I could be like him.

The Troubles of Movie Making

As consumers of the film industry I think that we are to blind to see past the movie itself. We neglect all the work that goes into the production. The Director is the head of everything and if sometimes goes wrong o set he takes the heat. Paul Holehouse is the Director of the "Hunger Games" film and he is putting in hours to make sure that everything is taken care of so they can have a good shoot for the sequel to the "Hunger Games." He has already had his locations inspected, his stunt crew prepared and his actors trained. He wants to do his best to avoid problems that will leave them stuck in the mud. He said it himself, "We don't want to have any down times or delays, because that's what kills you in this business." I knew it took a lot of work to make a film but now I see its more stressful than the D.M.V. You really got to respect the film crews and the Directors and all the stuff that they go through to deliver movies to us the viewers.

Detroit! Home of the Man of Steel Sequel

The summer blockbuster "Man of Steel" that raked in 290 million is set for a sequel and the location for shooting has been chosen. Director Zack Snyder and his film crew have chosen Detroit, Michigan as the Location for both the Metropolis setting and the Gotham setting. The two main actors Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are set with their contracts and are ready to film. The crew has been awarded a $35 million state incentive and according to Snyder Michigan has been easy to work with. The economically troubled "motor city" will also be helped by the film because both hotels and vendors  that will work with the film will be given jobs throughout the filming in Detroit. This is very interesting because the film will give the city a better reputation because of the money and the publicity that it will get after the film is released. It's good to see that the city is going to get perks off of this film in terms of money. I'm excited to see how the film crew will change the appearance of the city into two different places. I'm pretty sure that Gotham will be a low lit place while Metropolis will be a better lighted setting.  Hopefully they don't destroy the entire city like Superman did in the first film. My biggest question for this article is how they are going to show the Wayne manor, will it be similar to the Dark Knight trilogy or will they totally redesign the place and make it a different look.

Animation Overload

The Animation genre of movies has flourished in the past decade. Some successful and some not so successful. Recently over the summer animated movies were coming one after the other and the main providers of these movies have been studios like Dream-works, Disney, and Pixar. Some summer blockbusters like "Despicable Me 2" by Illumination Entertainment and "Monsters University" by Pixar both made over $600 million dollars but, the industry leader Dream-works released "Turbo" which was considered a "misfire" because it only bought in $21.3 million, only half of the the production costs. So the question is now will these companies continue the overflow of animated movies or will they cut back on what seems to be an over-indulgence?
This article really brought me to think about the animated movies in the past month, Yeah I didn't go see most of them but judging by reviews and people I know most of the so called "blockbusters of the summer" were not living up the expectations. It surprises me too because everybody thought that these movies were going to be great. In the shoes of the makers of the movies i cant imagine how hard it is to see something you worked so hard on only for it to get bad reviews and in some cases no money. Thnks to thses reviews I can see that i didnt go out and waste money on a money i was going to dread sitting through. A major question that this article raised for me was just this. What are the directors, producers, and writers going to do so that the next wave of animated movies does better than this years.

More Heroes to the Avengers?

According to the L.A. Times Hero Complex the young "Kick Ass 2" star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is rumored to be signing a deal to portray the super hero Quicksilver in the sequel to "The Avengers" "The Avengers: Rise of Ultron". "The Avengers" is the third highest grossing movie in history, and before he signs the deal to star as Quicksilver, his wife is directing a movie about the novel "50 Shades of Grey" and she wants him in the film to star as the 27 year old Male character, but Taylor Johnson says that he is maybe to young to play that role. Back to the Avengers now, as a fan of the Marvel franchise I think that adding more heroes to the squad would be a great thing. In fact, the original comic book Avnegers were chock full of Marvel super heroes. The thing that really makes me interested though, is the fact that the directors of the movie are considering the idea of adding more heroes. The article makes me really excited to see which other heroes they are going to add (hopefully Spider-Man). The addition of more heroes who havent had a movie such as Quicksilver may call for more back stories so we know where they came from. Im really excited for the rest of the Avengers franchise, and I cant wait to see how many other movies and original heroes they are willing to add.
